Here is the girl portion of my team this year for Missionlab. they are the sweetest girls ever !
We’ve been training all week, learning about the different ministries, tasks, and roles each of us will play during the summer. I cannot wait to get my first group of teens in! The heat is incredible for me, the Canadian. I’ve been teased a lot this week for my red hair and Canadian heritage, but its all in good fun :) The food here has been AMAZING. I feel like they’ll have to roll me home by the end of summer though.
We were learning about what service is and isn’t, and one thing that really stuck out to me was the story of a widow who went to see the prophet Elisha because she was going to have to sell her sons into slavery as they had no money to provide. And Elisha asked her what she needed, and what she already had. That is what we need to remember when serving this summer and anytime, to not assume we know people’s needs just because they look a certain way or live differently than us. And that we need to preserve the dignity of those we help by letting them help themselves, using the resources they have and the power of God to provide!
I am sleepy and warm and I think a nap is in order before dinner. God is moving in this city and I am learning to rely on him every step of the way. He is doing something miraculous in me already. Bring it on, summer :)
